How does Laser Welding reduce down-time

0

In recent years laser welding has picked up momentum on the industrial scene. Laser welding is renowned for not only its high accuracy but also it’s ability to reduce downtime.

How exactly does laser welding reduce downtime?

To begin with we need to first understand the differences between traditional methods of welding and laser welding. Standard/Traditional Welding requires you to send parts away to a company which is an inconvenience if the part is essential for your work. Sending off a part, having it repaired and then having it sent back can take 5-7 working days which can be a very long time to wait for a part to be fixed.

Laser welding differs to this. Some laser welding machines are purposely designed to be portable. What better way to reduce downtime than to come on your site and repair the part directly. Instead of taking 5-7 working days to repair a part how about a day. That’s the beauty of laser welding, you get the highest quality weld delivered straight to your work site.

But wouldn’t this significantly increase the cost?

This depends on how you look at it. The price difference will obviously depend on what company you decide to work with and also the significance of the part.

What do I mean by significance? Well like I stated earlier if the part is essential then it will be important for it to be fixed as soon as possible. If your part is out of action for 5-7 working days you are losing a significant amount of money. That amount of money you lose waiting for the part to be repaired can instead be reinvested into hiring a laser welding company.

So is Laser Welding the better option in comparison to traditional welding?

Overall yes, laser welding is better. Asides from high accuracy and decreased downtime there are numerous advantages; however, we will be discussing this in a later blog.
